Once you have the smile you’ve always wanted, you should get familiar with how to clean and maintain them. This is very important, as the 5-year limited warranty is void if you do not follow the maintenance schedules and instructions. This is because if you take proper care of All-On-4, it should last you many years. However, if you don’t take proper care of them, problems will happen, just like when you miss oil changes for your car, your transmission will break down.
Right after surgery when you have your first set of teeth, wait 2 weeks before starting to clean underneath as gum tissues heal underneath. After 2 weeks, you can start using Waterpik Water Flosser twice per day, especially at bedtime to remove food and debris. Remember, with the first set of teeth it is very important you stay on a soft diet. You should also brush the new teeth with a soft manual toothbrush and water twice a day. Do not use toothpaste on the All-On-4 teeth. If you would rather use floss and a mouthwash rather than a Waterpik, I recommend using a floss threader with floss, or a Superfloss (Oral-B) with an alcohol-free mouthwash. You can choose to use alcohol-free fluoride mouthwash if you have teeth on the other jaw. Use the same cleaning technique on the second (final) set of teeth.
You also have to come every 6 months for your checkup and cleaning of your new teeth, as well as for any natural teeth you have left. We will check to make sure the screws are tight, take X-rays to see the bone levels as necessary and clean under the All-On-4. Remember, the 5-year limited warranty is void if you do not follow the maintenance schedules and instructions. This means you must keep your 6-month checkup and cleaning appointments as well, so you can keep smiling!
